Notting Hill Carnival

Annually, Tropical Isles transforms the streets of Notting Hill into a vibrant parade of culture and festivity during Carnival, where our procession of dancers, both leading and following our sound truck, becomes the heartbeat of the celebration. Our DJs set the rhythm, enveloping the air with infectious vibes that compel everyone to dance and celebrate together.

Each year, we ignite our creative spirit by embracing an innovative theme that guides our journey towards Carnival. These themes not only inspire our costumes and music but also infuse our entire suite of preparatory events with a sense of purpose and excitement. For instance, in 2024, we will embrace ‘J’Ouvert’ as a theme, originating from the French jour ouvert, meaning day break or morning. This follows the majestic ‘The Woman King’ in 2023, which honoured powerful female figures, and ‘I Can Hear Freedom Calling’ in 2022, a tribute to liberation and resilience.

In the lead-up to Carnival, we host an array of events, classes, and workshops that offer enriching educational, creative, and enjoyable opportunities for community involvement. From dance and music workshops that dive deep into the roots of Carnival arts, to educational sessions that explore the history and significance of our themes, we ensure that every participant can find a way to connect and contribute. These activities are not only a platform for learning and expression but also a way to foster a sense of community and shared excitement for the upcoming celebration.

Our aim is to make the Carnival experience as inclusive and impactful as possible, providing a space where the community can come together to learn, celebrate, and express themselves creatively. Join us in this exhilarating journey towards Carnival, where every beat of the music, every step of the dance, and every spark of creativity celebrates the rich tapestry of our shared culture and history.
