Testimonials

I am 19 years old and currently I am an Art and Design student who likes to draw, visit museums, and research interesting art work in my free time.

Last year I was looking to join a carnival group, but I wasn’t sure where I wanted to go, so a friend from college recommended me to join Tropical Isles.

Being part of Tropical Isles brought me a lot of benefits, because when I joined, I wasn’t as confident as I am today in communication, or have confidence in dancing, or being able to vocalise my ideas.

Thinking about the fact that I will be soon studying (BA) Interior Architecture, the skills I gained at Tropical Isles like: knowing how to make costumes, being able to teach a class, how to manage my time, as well as working with products and how to sell products, are skills that will prove to be very helpful in the future.

I am 17 years old and I am very passionate about dancing and music making. I joined Tropical Isles 10 years ago because I loved dancing and the community feeling that comes with joining the group. During these years received numerous awards and medals, i.e. like the Jack Petchey Award and a Bronze Arts Award. These achievements proved to be valuable in my college application, where I was accepted to the Performance Arts College, thanks to my experience and skills gained at Tropical Isles.

Tropical Isles pushed me out of my comfort zone and make me more confident, so now I can teach a dance class without feeling shy or thinking I am not capable of doing it, I am more open and sociable, and I think I can make new people feel welcomed at Tropical Isles.

I am a 20 years old Sport Therapy student, passionate about dancing, the reason why when my cousin who was a dance teacher pushed me into coming and give it a try, I said yes. This was almost 8 years ago, and guess what? I’ve been here ever since that first time and I am more involved than ever. In the last two years, I start designing boy’s carnival costume and at the same time I was one of the Team Captains for the dance group, until recently when I got promoted to Assistant Choreographer.
Being with Tropical Isles taught me to be more friendly, outgoing, how to consider and tolerate people more, as well as being more vocal, and gave me more self-confidence.

I consider that during these years I gained some valuable skills, like designing and making costumes, so for example if I would want to make my own clothing business, I consider I have the skills to be successful.

At Tropical Isles I learned how to come out my comfort zone, because I like to be in my own personal area and helped me become a better person. Being in a leadership position and teaching other people can be stressful sometimes and it comes with the role, but I enjoy it. The responsibilities that were given to me made me feel great because its means that I’m improving more my skills and it shows my development from when I started and where I am now.

I am 16 years old and I am studying animal care in college. I don’t have hobbies, but I enjoy cooking and watching movies and series in my free time. I recently joined Tropical Isles because a lot of my family members are part of the group and it looks really fun from outside.

I like Tropical Isles because as soon as I joined, I made new friends really easy. Here I learned how to come out of my shell, and I become less shy. Also, I learn how to be creative and how to dance confidently. Being part of Tropical Isles has increased my confidence.
